NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer - Reviewed

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Custard Review

If there's one beauty product I'm loyal with, it's concealer. My last post on concealers is testament to this fact - it was ages ago! It really does take something pretty special for me to stray from the straight and narrow of Collection and Urban Decay - but NARS have persuaded me with the newest addition to their concealer stable - NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer. I bought mine from Fabled - its the first time I've used their website, and I was really impressed. Amazing one-hour delivery slots too!

The blurb on this describes it as a soft-focus, high coverage, smoothing and softening (really?) concealer, with a soft matte finish. I suppose this is aiming to be the matte equivalent of NARS' cult classic Radiant Creamy Concealer. I use the same shade in both concealers (Custard, for reference) and find that this applies much lighter than it looks in the pan.

The texture is quite thick - and believe me, a little goes a long way. I use a small, flat concealer brush to apply, and then pat in with my fingers. The formula blends beautifully on my skin, and is forgiving on texture, pores and fine lines - though be warned, if you don't set this, it will crease under the eyes. I find this to wear really nicely through the day, and don't find that it breaks up at all under my eyes or when used to cover blemishes. It's easy to apply makeup on top of, though I do suspect that if you use a mega-siliconey primer beneath, you may find some pilling happening.

It is entirely possible to use this alone, without a heavy foundation base (I've been using solely my beloved Charlotte Tilbury Healthy Glow and this concealer for weeks now) and not look patchy at all - there's a decent shade range, but I'd definitely recommend doing a bit of an in store test to find the right shade for you, unless you are an obsessive like me who can work out their shade from a colour swatch. I think this is probably not going to be your everlasting love if you have dry skin, but if you have normal-to-oily skin, this is worth a swatch in store.

Overall? Big fan. A new staple in my concealer wardrobe.

Have you tried this concealer? What did you think?
