Jouer Long Wear Lip Cremes are having a bit of a moment. With every YouTuber banging on about the brilliance of these little babies, it has been pretty difficult to ignore them - particularly when the colour range is ah-mazing and there's about fifteen different nudey-pinks, which are essentially my lip colour catnip.
But.. are they worth their insane hype?
I have to say I was majorly impressed with Jouer's Lip Topper in Skinny Dip. The formula is beautiful, it smells like a vanilla cake from your dreams, and it does hang around for ages. Nothing I don't love about that stuff.
But... the liquid lipstick formula?
First - packaging. Shiny, square, weirdly all clicks together as per the instructions above (though I can't see myself spending hours of my life doing makeup lego...) There's a pretty standard doe-foot applicator, and the tube is a reasonable size. Nothing too exciting so far.
I picked up Melon - a warm, pink-nude - which is a really beautiful colour. As with Skinny Dip, this formula smells like the most delicious vanilla cake you could ever imagine - it makes you want to eat the tube. No exaggeration. I have to stop myself every time I open it!
The formula is a slightly moussey, thin texture with a quicker dry-down time than Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks, but slightly slower on me than Kat Von D. Not a huge issue - there's certainly enough play-time for sorting out a dodgy lip line. It plays well with others - and looks dreamy when combined with Jouer's Skinny Dip Lip Topper.
Like I said, a beautiful colour, and easy to apply. It's pretty long-lasting, too - about six hours, with drinking coffee - and no transfer whatsoever. After the six hour mark, the Lip Creme does start to look quite crumbly and pull in to lines - bear this in mind if you plan on no touch-ups for a really long day!
Honestly though? It's not my favourite formula. It feels quite chalk-like on the lips, even carefully exfoliated and moisturised ones, and I find that this is definitely drying over time. This is a personal preference thing though: by sacrificing the more pliable, comfortable, borderline satiny Dose of Colors or KVD formula, you do get a more matte looking lip.
If you're willing to totally sacrifice the concept of hydration, or love an uber-matte lip, you will probably love these. I don't think I'll be buying more, but the colour of this is so beautiful I will be using it frequently (for short, non lip-killing periods of time!)
Have you tried Jouer's matte lipstick formula?
